Julian Ellis

Professor Julian Ellis OBE is the Chairman of Ellis Developments Limited a company within which he has done extensive work in the design and manufacture of textile surgical implants and embroidery.

Julian Ellis holds the degree of Master of Philosophy for research into the technology of fabrics. He was elected as Fellow of the Textile Institute (a body incorporated by Royal Charter) in 1985 in recognition of his major creative contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the field of textile technology.

He has been awarded an OBE for Services to the Technical Textiles Industry, and for services to the welfare of prisoners. He is an Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham Julian is also Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has been actively employed in the textile industry for 36 years, much of it specialising in technical aspects of yarn, fabric and garment manufacture.

He carried out research for Courtaulds Group in synthetic fibres, and was later technical manager of a company making knitted fabrics. He has been a freelance consultant in textile technology for 28 years, consulting to the knitting, fabric and clothing industries, including the provision of advice on quality control and quality assurance procedures and practices. He was also a Special Lecturer in the Department of Surgical and Medical Sciences at the University of Nottingham, where he provided advice and assistance in textile related matters to both surgical and engineering departments.
